Sports Premium

The government provides additional funding per annum for primary schools who qualify, to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sports. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to primary school head teachers. The money must be used to improve the provision of P.E. and school sport.

The purpose of this grant is to fund improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of pupils aged 5-11 years old, in the 2016/17 academic year so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles. This has recently been extended until 2020.

P.E. and school sport, play a very important part in the life of the Dormers Wells pupil. We are proud of our sporting reputation at this school and we want to improve and enhance provision for the subject with this money.  We believe that P.E. and school sport contribute to the holistic development of our children and, through participation, our children build and learn more about our key values such as respect, co-operation and kindness for themselves and others.

We are therefore delighted to be able to use the £12,058 sport premium funding to support the development of P.E. and school sport in the following ways;

-Provide quality assured professional development opportunities for teachers, enabling quality teaching and learning for all children.

•CPD for teaching staff and subject leader.

•Planning time for teachers with a specialist sports coach.

•Buying into a School Sports Partnership.

•Quality assuring sports coaches.

-More intra school sport, enabling children to have more competition within classes and year groups.

-Develop other minority inclusive sports such as Boccia, Golf and Tennis.

-Extend and improve storage facilities for the equipment.

-Giving more extra-curricular opportunities to Year 3 and 4 students and girls in athletics with Met Track supporting us.

Our overall aim is to raise standards in P.E. and school sport, increasing the participation and opportunities offered to our children. We also aim to provide higher quality lessons and improved learning for all.
